Understand estimates in Session insights

Dayprints saves the task estimate that exists when each task-linked session begins, on both Free and Plus. Progress › Session history shows the task, date, status, and focused time for recent completed or cancelled sessions; it does not show estimates. Plus Session insights group completed and cancelled sessions from the last 30 days by task and can compare their focused time with a saved estimate.

Find your Session record

Open Progress to see focused time and Session counts for Today and All time. Expand Session history for the 15 most recent completed or cancelled sessions, then choose Load earlier sessions when it appears. Dayprints shows up to 100 recent sessions in this view; older sessions remain saved.

Later task edits do not rewrite finished sessions

Suppose a task is estimated at 30 minutes when you start a session. If you later revise the task to 120 minutes, that session keeps the original 30-minute context. New sessions use the estimate present when they begin.

This keeps past focused time attached to what you knew when you started the session. It does not turn an updated estimate into a more favourable account of an earlier session.

When Plus insights show no estimate

Plus insights show a task group’s focused time without an estimate when:

  • the session began without a linked task;
  • the linked task had no estimate when the session began;
  • the session was recorded before Dayprints began saving estimates at session start; or
  • the sessions grouped for a task during the 30-day insight period do not all have the same saved estimate.

The stored estimate field for older sessions is intentionally blank. Dayprints did not store their original estimate, so it cannot recover that value honestly. It does not substitute the task’s current estimate or guess what the earlier value may have been.

Changing or deleting a task later never replaces a stored snapshot with a live value. If Plus insights cannot justify one estimate for the sessions they combine, they leave the estimate out.
