Use Sessions and Planning Intelligence
Open Sessions to choose from today’s planned active tasks. While you remain on the page, reopening Sessions keeps your choice; use Change to choose another task. Starting a session from a specific active task overrides that choice. The Sessions overlay explains: “A session sets aside time to focus on one task. Choose a duration, and pause or end whenever you need.” Every plan can choose 25m, 60m, or a custom whole-number duration from 1 to 240 minutes; 25 minutes is the default. Choosing 25m or 60m starts the timer immediately. Type a custom length, then choose Start session. On Plus, choosing a saved preset also starts the timer immediately.
You can pause, resume, let a session finish, or choose End session, and the elapsed time is restored after a reload or the app returning from the background. Time from an ended session remains in history and counts toward recorded time totals. After a session reaches its planned end, you can continue with +15 min.
An active session finishes itself when it reaches the length you chose and records exactly that much time, never more. If you walk away, it will not stay open and prevent you from starting another session. A paused session is unaffected and can stay paused for as long as you like.
The Alert me when this Session is completed checkbox is on by default. It uses best-effort Web Push, and starting the Session can ask for notification permission if this device still needs to be added. The alert arrives even if you are in Dayprints when the Session ends. Dayprints rechecks before delivery: ending a Session before its planned end suppresses the alert, while a Session that reached its planned end keeps its due alert even if its status is completed or cancelled.
The separate Play a chime at the planned end option is off by default. Choose Play sample to hear it first. The chime plays only while Dayprints is open on screen, requires Allow sounds in Settings, and remains subject to your device’s ring, silent, or mute settings. When Dayprints is not on screen, use the Web Push alert instead.
Finishing a session does not complete the task automatically. Session time also earns no Momentum; it records attention without turning timer use into a points target.
Plus adds saved presets and richer Sessions insights. Your Session history remains available on every plan. See Plus opens Settings → Plan & billing inside Dayprints.
For the trade-off between Dayprints Sessions and a broader focus toolkit, the Dayprints vs TickTick comparison covers both approaches.
On Plan, Plus Planning Intelligence always shows an explainable plan estimate for the selected day. It may also warn that the workload is too full or suggest a schedule, missed-task recovery action, protected Session, or alternative next action. Each suggestion names its reason; schedule and recovery controls show the action before anything is saved. On Free, See Plus opens Settings → Plan & billing inside Dayprints.
Planning Intelligence is deterministic, not generative AI. It works from your existing task details and never silently rearranges the plan. Scheduling and recovery proposals require confirmation and are rechecked against current data. Alternatives shown on Today leave the normal Up next choice intact.
Use a session to support the task in front of you. Use Planning Intelligence when you need a clearer trade-off, then accept only the change that still fits the day you intend to have.
